Waterford Estate
Mediterranean courtyards, Kevin Arnold Shiraz and a chocolate-and-wine pairing that redefines the category.
About Waterford Estate
A Tuscan-styled estate on the Helderberg slopes, famous for Kevin Arnold Shiraz, The Jem flagship and a legendary wine-and-chocolate pairing served in the courtyard fountain.
Waterford sits high on the Helderberg mountain, a short drive from Somerset West, and delivers one of the most polished tasting experiences in the Cape. The Mediterranean-inspired courtyard, citrus trees and central fountain feel more like a Tuscan hilltop villa than a South African cellar door — a quiet, adult-oriented estate built for lingering.
History
Founded in 1998 by Jeremy Ord and cellar master Kevin Arnold, Waterford was purpose-built for terroir-driven red wine, particularly Shiraz. Kevin's signature warm-climate Shiraz and the Bordeaux-blend flagship, The Jem, quickly moved Waterford into South Africa's top tier of estate wineries.
The wine experience
The estate offers three headline experiences: the classic wine tasting in the fountain courtyard; the famous Wine and Chocolate Pairing (single-origin chocolates matched to five wines); and the Estate Tour with a Land Rover ride through the vineyards. All three are seated and pre-booked.
